FocusShare

1. Overview

FocusShare ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that tracks the time you actively spend on websites and allows you to share highlighted text with Slack and Notion using your own API credentials. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension processes, where that data is stored, and how it is used.

The Extension is developed and maintained by an independent developer. By installing and using FocusShare, you agree to the terms described in this policy.

2. Data the Extension Collects

FocusShare collects and stores the following data exclusively on your local device:

2.1 Browsing Time per Domain

• The domain name of the website you are actively browsing (e.g., github.com)
• The number of seconds you spend actively on that domain per calendar day
• Data is aggregated by day and stored under the key usage_YYYY-MM-DD in Chrome's local storage
• Only the top-level domain is recorded – no full URLs, no page titles, no search queries

2.2 Highlighted Text (Highlights)

• Text you have manually selected and chosen to share via the FocusShare popup
• The URL of the page where the text was highlighted
• The page title at the time of highlighting
• A timestamp of when the highlight was created
• Highlights are stored locally and kept for a maximum of 100 entries

2.3 Your API Credentials (Settings)

• Your Slack Incoming Webhook URL (if configured)
• Your Notion Integration Token and Database ID (if configured)
• Your lists of productive and distracting domains
• These are stored in chrome.storage.sync, which Chrome encrypts and may sync across your own signed-in Chrome browsers via Google's infrastructure

3. How Your Data is Used

3.1 Browsing Time Data is used solely to display your personal productivity statistics in the extension popup. It is never transmitted to any external server.

3.2 Highlighted Text is transmitted to third-party services only when you explicitly click the "Slack" or "Notion" button. In that case:

• Slack: The highlighted text, page URL, and page title are sent to the Slack Incoming Webhook URL you configured. This data is governed by Slack's Privacy Policy.
• Notion: The highlighted text, page URL, and page title are sent to the Notion API using the Integration Token you configured. This data is governed by Notion's Privacy Policy.

All API calls are made directly from your browser to the respective service. The extension developer never receives or has access to this data.

3.3 API Credentials are used only to authenticate your requests to Slack and Notion. They are stored locally in your browser and are never transmitted to the extension developer.

4. Data Storage & Retention

• Usage statistics are stored in chrome.storage.local on your device. They are never automatically deleted – you can delete them at any time via the Extension's settings page ("Delete all data").
• Highlights are stored in chrome.storage.local. The Extension automatically limits this to the most recent 100 entries.
• Settings and API credentials are stored in chrome.storage.sync. Chrome may sync this data to Google's servers if you are signed into Chrome and have sync enabled. This sync is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Uninstalling the Extension removes all data stored by the Extension from your device.

5. Data Sharing with Third Parties

FocusShare does not share any data with the extension developer or any advertising, analytics, or data-brokering service.

The only third-party data transfers are those you initiate yourself by clicking "Slack" or "Notion" in the extension popup, as described in Section 3.2.

6. Chrome Permissions Used

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, and uses them only as described:

• tabs – To determine which website is currently active in order to track time on that domain.
• storage – To save usage statistics, highlights, and settings locally on your device.
• activeTab – To read the URL and title of the currently active tab when you trigger a highlight share.
• scripting – To inject the highlight popup UI into web pages.
• alarms – To reset the daily tracking counter at midnight.
• idle – To pause time tracking when your device is idle (no input for 60 seconds).
• <all_urls> (host permissions) – Required to inject the highlight popup on any website you visit. The Extension does not read page content; it only responds to text you manually select.

7. Your Rights & Controls

• View your data: All collected data is visible directly in the Extension popup (Usage tab) and Options page.
• Delete your data: Open the Options page → "Delete all data" to remove all usage statistics and saved highlights. Your settings (API keys) are preserved unless you manually clear the input fields and save.
• Stop data collection: Disable or uninstall the Extension at any time via chrome://extensions.
• Export: Data can be exported via Chrome's built-in developer tools (Application → Storage → chrome.storage).

8. Children's Privacy

FocusShare is not directed at children under the age of 13. The Extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be published at this URL. Significant changes will be noted in the Extension's Chrome Web Store changelog. Continued use of the Extension after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
